My Own Portugal could not let this passed so we launched a special box dedicated to the author of "Contos da Montanha", fond of hunting, good food and agriculture. Here, will find the flavors, aromas and words in this Box that is a tribute to an icon of Portuguese literature, Miguel Torga.

This month travel us..

Miguel Torga's footsteps

From the mountains was born the poet that searches eternally the reason for his existence. The rocks are his air, the Heather is his name. He began as Adolfo Correia da Rocha, but soon he identified himself as another, Miguel Torga.
Adolfo Rocha was the son of modest farmers from Trás-os-Montes, learned to work the land, taste that is not lost over the years, such as, a taste for hunting.
A careful observer of the world around him he traveled through several countries venturing even by Spanish lands in full civil war to make the literary portrait that would take him to jail in Portugal.
His role was instrumental in the construction of Portuguese democracy. After the Revolution in 25 of April, 1975, Miguel Torga helped found the Socialist Party alongside Mário Soares.
But we will talk about the poet, the writer, the observer. Miguel Torga left us 20 years ago and still there was no one like him. In his memories divided into diaries he shared a world that was his and ours. Made the portrait of a Portugal still distant from the other European countries. He talks about the nature of our country and of the Portuguese in a critically and a realistically way.
An amazing bibliography that is now studied and compulsory teaching in Portugal. Works such as "Bichos" and "Contos da Montanha" cannot be forgotten from collective memory. In addition to its known prose and poetry, Miguel Torga was also the author of essays and plays.
We hope that this theme arouses your curiosity to learn more about this brilliant author.
