Sparrow Rattles

The art of making rattles results from the millenary encounter between the ancient « fire arts » (that of the boilers and that of the blacksmiths) with musical art. Each rattle is the product of manual labor to shape an iron plate, of its brazing in copper through the passage through the furnace and its tuning.
In the Alentejo there are examples of rattles with almost 2000 years manufactured by the Romans, and in almost everything similar to those that have been manufactured for centuries in the village of Alcáçovas, the most important Portuguese center to manufacture this type of handicraft..
Having a Rattle Sparrow is having a fragment of History, of an Identity and a Tradition.
