Romanesque Route

A Route founded on the memories of the Romanesque, that invites you to an inspiring trip to places with history, with singular monastic ensembles, churches, memorials, bridges, castles and stately towers, matured in forged green earth, full of knowledge and flavors. In the land of the Sousa, Tâmega and Douro, in the heart of North Portugal, stands an important architectural heritage of Romanesque origin. This heritage is structured in Romanesque Route, germinated, in 1998, within the municipal districts within the VALSOUSA – Association Sousa Valley Towns (Castelo de Paiva, Felgueiras, Lousada, Paços de Ferreira, Walls and Penafiel), and enlarged, in 2010, the other municipalities of the NUT III - Tâmega (Amarante, Baião, Celorico de Basto, Cinfães, Marco de Canaveses and Resende). Anchored in a set of monuments of great value and exceptional particularities, this route you want to take an excellence role in the cultural and scenic touring, able to position the region as a Romanesque landmark destination.
